TRB5 BASE Series – Thunderbolt / USB4 Setup & Drivers

This guide provides the required drivers and setup instructions for MagStor TRB5 BASE Series Thunderbolt / USB4 LTO tape drives.

The BASE Series uses an internal ATTO Celerity Fibre Channel adapter to connect the Thunderbolt / USB4 interface to the LTO tape drive. The appropriate ATTO Celerity driver and ATTO360 Storage utility should be installed before using the tape drive.

macOS Setup

Step 1 – Install the ATTO Celerity Fibre Channel Driver

Download and install the ATTO Celerity Fibre Channel Driver for macOS. This driver enables macOS to communicate with the Fibre Channel adapter inside the MagStor BASE Series drive.

Download ATTO Celerity Driver for macOS

macOS may require you to approve the ATTO driver in the system security settings. Apple Silicon Macs may also require changes to the Startup Security settings before third-party system extensions can be loaded.

Restart your Mac after installation if prompted.

Step 2 – Install ATTO360 Storage

ATTO360 Storage is used to configure and manage the internal ATTO Fibre Channel adapter.

Download ATTO360 Storage for macOS

Important: ATTO360 Storage does not install the Celerity Fibre Channel driver. Both the Celerity driver and ATTO360 Storage should be installed.

Step 3 – Apply the MagStor LTO Tuning Profile

After installing ATTO360 Storage:

  1. Open ATTO360 Storage.
  2. Select System from the left menu.
  3. Locate Tuning Profiles.
  4. Select MagStor from the profile menu.
  5. Confirm that LTO is displayed and the description reads “Optimize for MagStor LTO storage solutions.”
  6. Click Apply.
  7. Restart your Mac.

The MagStor LTO tuning profile configures the ATTO Fibre Channel adapter with the recommended settings for MagStor LTO tape drives.

Important for LTFS on macOS: The MagStor LTO tuning profile configures the Fibre Channel adapter for the 1 MB I/O size required for LTFS operation on macOS. Apply the MagStor profile before attempting to mount or format an LTFS tape.


Windows Setup

Step 1 – Install the ATTO Celerity Fibre Channel Driver

Download and install the ATTO Celerity Fibre Channel Driver for Windows. This driver enables Windows to communicate with the Fibre Channel adapter inside the MagStor BASE Series drive.

Restart Windows after installation if prompted.

Step 2 – Install ATTO360 Storage

ATTO360 Storage is used to configure and manage the internal ATTO Fibre Channel adapter.

Important: ATTO360 Storage does not install the Celerity Fibre Channel driver. Both the Celerity driver and ATTO360 Storage should be installed.

Step 3 – Apply the MagStor LTO Tuning Profile

After installing ATTO360 Storage:

  1. Open ATTO360 Storage.
  2. Select System from the left menu.
  3. Locate Tuning Profiles.
  4. Select MagStor from the profile menu.
  5. Confirm that LTO is displayed and the description reads “Optimize for MagStor LTO storage solutions.”
  6. Click Apply.
  7. Restart Windows.

The MagStor LTO tuning profile configures the ATTO Fibre Channel adapter with the recommended settings for MagStor LTO tape drives, including the 1 MB I/O configuration used for LTFS operation.

Verify the Tape Drive

After completing the driver installation and applying the MagStor tuning profile, power on the MagStor tape drive and connect the Thunderbolt / USB4 cable.

macOS: Open System Information and verify that the Thunderbolt device and ATTO Fibre Channel adapter are detected.



Windows: Open Device Manager and verify that the ATTO Celerity adapter and LTO tape drive are detected without warning symbols.

Once the hardware is detected correctly, the drive is ready for use with your supported backup or LTFS software.
